Our story

CAQA Gasline Networks

CAQA Gasline Networks owns and operates a regulated natural gas distribution network that delivers gas to more than 240,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers across south-eastern and north-eastern Victoria. The business builds and maintains polyethylene and steel mains, connects services to customer meters, operates district regulator stations and city gates, and responds to gas escapes and infrastructure emergencies around the clock. It also runs a small industrial gas cylinder filling and bulk transfer operation at the Traralgon depot, and is trialling the blending of green hydrogen into a section of its Wodonga network.

The business is organised around a 24 hour control centre in Dandenong South and three regional depots at North Geelong, Traralgon and Wodonga. The control centre monitors network pressure and flow through the SCADA system and dispatches field crews. Each depot houses construction crews, network maintenance technicians, metering staff and a first response roster. Field crews work a standard day shift with a rotating on-call emergency roster, and the control centre works three shifts across the week so that a qualified operator is always on desk.

Gasline operates under a licence issued by the state gas safety regulator and runs an accepted safety case that covers every asset in the network. The health, safety and environment management system sets the permit to work, isolation, excavation and emergency rules that every worker and contractor must follow. Quality is managed through controlled documents, competency-based authorisations, planned inspections and a leak survey program that covers the whole network on a fixed cycle. Every incident, near miss and gas escape is recorded, investigated and reported to the regulator where the law requires it.

What we stand for

Safety before supply

No job is so urgent that it cannot be done safely. If a task cannot be done to the procedure, the task stops.

Reliability

Customers expect gas at the burner tip every day. Planned work, good records and well maintained assets keep supply steady.

Competence

People only work within the scope of their current authorisation, and the business invests in training and reassessment.

Openness

Incidents, defects and mistakes are reported early and shared so that the whole network learns from them.

Compliance

The rules we work under

The simulated business follows the real laws, standards and regulators of its industry, so the documents and scenarios reflect genuine obligations.
