Our departments
Six departments make up the business. Each page shows the purpose, the people, the measures that matter and the systems the team works in.
Network Control Centre
Monitors and controls the distribution network from Dandenong South using SCADA, manages pressure and odourisation alarms, receives gas escape calls from the public and retailers, and dispatches field crews and first responders to every event so that supply stays within the safe operating envelope.
Field Construction
Builds new mains and services and replaces ageing cast iron and steel assets with polyethylene. Crews excavate, lay, fuse, test and commission pipelines, connect services to customer meters and restore the site, working to construction plans, the network standard and the permit to work system.
Network Maintenance and Integrity
Keeps the existing network sound through planned maintenance of regulators, valves, city gates, water bath heaters and cathodic protection systems, the cyclic leak survey program, and pipeline surveillance. Technicians diagnose and repair defects and keep the asset register current.
Emergency Response
Provides the first on site response to gas escapes, pipeline damage and facility events across the network. Responders establish site control, evaluate and make safe, isolate under permit, carry out emergency repairs and relight appliances, and hand a documented site back to the customer or the maintenance crew.
Metering and Data Services
Reads, exchanges and tests gas meters, installs and maintains data logging equipment at commercial and industrial sites, and processes meter reading information so that retailers receive accurate consumption data. The team also tests and relights new residential installations after connection.
Health, Safety, Environment and Compliance
Owns the health, safety and environment management system and the safety case, manages the permit to work system, investigates incidents, runs the training and authorisation register, audits contractors and prepares the reports the regulator requires. It supports every department to work to the rules rather than around them.
