Carry out the annual cathodic protection survey and report
You are the Gas Network Technician assigned to the Traralgon depot integrity program.
What has happened
The 150 millimetre steel high pressure main between Morwell and Moe is protected by rectifier R-09 and monitored at 22 test points. Last year's survey recorded a 120 millivolt drift at TP-14 that was noted but never investigated. A new housing estate has been built beside the main since then and a telecommunications duct was installed across the easement in July. Work order WO-26-3315 schedules the survey for 15 September. Tom Halloran wants every reading recorded against the asset, every defect raised, and a technical report he can table at the safety case review. The reference electrode and multimeter calibration certificates are in the depot store.
Deliverables
- Survey checklist
- Asset register entries with readings
- New work order for the TP-14 defect
- Completed technical report

Evidence guide
Check that readings carry units, dates and instrument identifiers, that the student recognises a drift within criteria as still needing investigation, and that the report separates observations from conclusions. Recommendations must name a role and a date. The work order for TP-14 must describe a safe excavation and coating inspection, not just say investigate.
